Buy a camera overseas? In the Philippines?

Would it be a good idea to buy a camera in the Philippines and use it here in the U.S.? I live in Florida and my Casio just crapped out on me :( I want to buy a professional photographer camera for taking better pictures? Nothing too expensive but cheap. I'm looking for something like Nikon or Canon. There is a voltage difference so how would I cope with this? I'm bringing 10,000 pesos with me to the Philippines.
